Court Supervisor
Child Safety and Behaviour Code of Conduct are one of TNA’s highest priorities. As a committee of volunteers, we require teams to assist with this and ensure all of our TNA children are being provided with a safe, positive and encouraging environment to play netball.
Court Supervisors are required on every game for each team to help us ensure TNA’s Child Safety Standards are being enforced from the sidelines by players, coaches and spectators.
Each team must provide a court supervisor that will be required to wear a hi-vis vest for the entirety of the game. Vests can be found in the court bucket which is delivered to the court before each game by the umpire.
Who can be a court supervisor?
A court supervisor MUST:
Be over 18 years of age.
NOT be the coach of the team - the coach is there to focus on the team, not sideline interactions.
NOT be the scorer of the team - a court supervisor may need to leave the court for assistance whereas the scorer can’t leave for help.
Wear the hi-vis vest to ensure our umpire officials are aware of who is in the role.
What is their responsibility?
Court Supervisors are expected to manage conflicts or issues, they are asked to be the ‘extra eyes and ears’ of the committee and to assist with basic game management rules as outline below:
Monitor that all players and spectators from their own team are showing good sportsmanship.
Report unsportsmanlike behaviour by either players or spectators, to the TNA office or a nearby TNA committee member during the game. TNA will then send a committee member or official to the sidelines to monitor during the remainder of the match. It’s much easier for us to follow up on poor conduct if we are made aware in real time. Reports after the match do not allow us to observe or father information as it is occurring.
Ensure that their own team scorer is standing with the scorer from the opposing team.
Keeping the rolling substitutions area clear for player safety.
Keep the grey sideline area clear for umpire safety.
Where can they seek assistance?
Help for issues can be sought from TNA Committee members who are usually wearing their TNA Polo Tops on game day. If you cannot see a committee member nearby your court, head to the TNA Office and someone will either come down or call for someone to come to your court as soon as possible.
Scorer
Both teams are required to provide a scorer to ensure the score is accurate throughout the game.
The scorers are required to stand together, away from either team bench, throughout the entire game. One scorer is responsible for the paper copy, one scorer is responsible for the tablet. Scorers can swap responsibilities throughout the game. For example, swap paper for tablet at half time.
If a team fails to provide a scorer, they give up the right to contest any final score.
It is the umpire’s responsibility to confirm score and submit to Netball Connect at the end of the game.
Using Netball Connect
Scoring on Netball Connect is not as scary as it seems! As per the image (right) it’s as simple as pressing + to add a goal to the correct team.
During quarter breaks you may be asked to confirm the score. Check the score with the other scorer, and if the same, press confirm.
What if something goes wrong?
Sometimes the wi-fi cuts out or the technology has a moment - that’s why we have the paper copy! Notify the umpires and send someone to notify the team at the office.
Otherwise, see below some helpful hints from Netball Victoria.
